About US
In New York City, Elmy's Special Services helps people with disabilities, their families, and those who care for them. Elmy's has worked for more than 20 years to help families and clients have a better quality of life. Initially, the organization helped low-income immigrant families who had trouble getting social services because of language and cultural barriers. Since then, Elmy's Special Services has grown to offer a full range of services to a much more comprehensive range of clients.
Elmy's Special Services works with people in the community to create programs that help people become more independent, support the dignity of each person, and give children more chances to live whole, happy lives in their natural environments. Elmy's helps clients and their families reach these goals by offering activities encouraging social and intellectual engagement, educational opportunities, therapeutic exercises, and safe and welcoming ways for clients to join the larger community. Here are some of the services that are offered.
Early intervention services help kids with disabilities who are three years old or younger. The program aims to help these kids reach critical developmental and life skills. Every child supported by Elmy's Special Services early intervention programs gets a unique care plan. To get services, a child must live in New York City, be between 0 and 3 years old, and have a diagnosed developmental or physical delay or disability, such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or autism.
Elmy's Special Services helps people with disabilities stay independent in their homes by giving them care at home. Some clients only need help a few hours a day, while others may need help 24 hours a day. Clients and their families should ask the doctor to make a referral for home care services. Elmy's Special Services intake nurse will look at the client's home to determine what services, equipment, supplies, and medications will help the client the most. The schedule for home care services is part of the individualized care plan, which can be changed as needs change.
Elmy's Special Services offers after-school programs with help with schoolwork, chances to meet new people, and fun activities in a safe place. For the after-school program, clients must have a developmental disability and be between 6 and 19. In each client's service plan, there is help with homework and meeting IEP goals. In addition, people often go to the public library, write daily, play games, make crafts, and celebrate holidays.
Services for day habilitation give people with disabilities a place to meet others in the community. Every weekday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., clients participate in volunteer work, social activities, and work-related programs to help them connect. In addition, Elmy's Special Services also takes people to and from the centre daily.
Community habilitation programs at Elmy's Special Services help people with disabilities learn the skills they need to live independently and stay in their homes and communities. The plan for each client is made with help from the client's family and healthcare professionals. It includes home visits, activities in the community, and training on how to manage money, keep the house clean, take care of yourself, and stay safe. Clients also look into possible jobs.
Elmy's Special Services helps people with developmental disabilities live independently by giving them residential services. The homes try to keep people as independent as possible while assisting them to live more fully as part of the community. The people who work in residential settings take each client's needs and wants into account and offer fun and social activities. These highly trained people also help with daily tasks like making food, shopping, and cleaning the house.
Elmy's Special Services offers respite services so that family caregivers in Brooklyn can take a break from caring for a disabled loved one. Families need time to do things like run errands, get away for the weekend or take a break for their mental health. Elmy's offers care inside and outside the home on holidays and overnight weekends.
Elmy's Special Services has summer camps for kids with special needs where they can meet new people, try new things, and learn to be more independent. Activities focus on building character, social and emotional skills, and the ability to make decisions. From the last day of one school year to the first day, Elmy's takes kids to and from camp every day.
These are just some things that Elmy's Special Services can do. The people working at Elmy's Special Services strongly believe that everyone, regardless of age or disability, can grow, take advantage of opportunities, and reach their goals. The organization helps people in the community with the utmost respect for each person's inherent worth, no matter their race, religion, or sexual orientation.
